They just do not work

Diets do not work. I can not believe how long people are on diets. Or on then off them. When you go on a diet you go off a diet. WW, Jenny Craig, Slimfast....name me one that works.
Facts: 30% of Americans are on a diet, 30% of Americans are trying to maintain their weight.
The diet industry is a 30 BILLION dollar industry. If you watch the news or visit any city in the US or Canada for that matter people are fat. Unhealthy, out of shape and fat. We live in the land of milk and honey and it shows.
Few doctors are aware of good nutrition, doctors are trained to treat disease not prevent it. Everyone wants a magic pill. I spent a month in the hospital and most of the nurses were over weight. A lot of them smoked. I am tired of hearing "I am a health professonal" and then wrong information being given. Just because you work in a medical field does not make you an expert on diet or weight loss.
Fact: You can not eat enough food to get all the daily requirements your body needs.
Heidi Bates was on global and made a statement "if you eat right" She is supposed to be an expert.
With todays eating habits, poor quality foods and mass farming that is impossible.
Food today does not have good nutrition.
That is my rant for today................................. :-)

You Need a Buddy

Every Monday , Wed and Thursday I head out to the Devon Gym. Let me tell you if it was not for the commitment to my work out buddy I would rarely fall out of bed and go.
Find a friend and make a commitment. Then stick to it. Make a promise to your dog to walk every day.

My dogs story

This is Blue. He came as a rescue about 10 years ago. Having been abused he was never trusting of men but over time and much socializing he became a good dog. He is now at least 12 years old and his back end does not work so well. He falls if he is not careful. Has trouble with the stairs.
Blue was on prescription Medicam for a long time. He spent his days sleeping on his bed in the basement and reached a point where more then going out to do his business was a BIG effort. He seemed to prefer to just be left alone. On 2 occasions he actually turned on my husband threatening to bite if he was not left alone. This was when Dave was trying to get him to go out before bed. He had been in for almost 12 hours.
Well I decided that I could not keep him if he was going to be a danger and he must be in pain to react so strongly. I called the vet and set the appointment for 5pm Tuesday of the next week. I ran out of his meds Friday night and it was a long weekend. He would be fine until Tuesday. Well over the weekend Blue seemed to perk up a bit and his happy personality was peeking through.
By Monday he was better and wanting to go out to feed horses with me. Tuesday was a nice day so I put off the dreaded deed until Wednesday night. I went horse back riding instead. Tuesday he was happy and I decided to start him on Usana Procosa. To make a long story short Blue is alive and having a great time. He is still weak on the hind but he goes for 3 to 4 walks a day. Visits his doggy friends on the next farm. Runs and plays with my Corgi Lizzi.
Blue has a new lease on life. He actually started bending his hocks again to climb the stairs.
I believe in my heart that Usana Procosa saved him. I will not be surprized if he makes another year. He is a big dog and living happily on borrowed time.

Garfield said it well!

DIET is DIE with a T on the end.

I personally love Garfield for his sarcasm and wit about weight.

Time to start

I have never been one to keep diaries or journals. This blogging is a new experience for me. Lately I have been on a journey seeking information on health and nutrition.
I hope to share and have others share information on this blog to help others on the same journey. My goal is to live to a healthy old age, active and feeling good. It is never to late to start taking care of yourself. Health is something we all take forgranted until it is gone.
